You've surely heard of eucalyptus or used it. It is a tree native to Australia and Tasmania that is now grown all over the world. Its leaves give an essential oil with a strong, fresh aroma, whose main component is eucalyptol (1,8-cineole). Here we tell you what it is used for, what the label of a bottle of eucalyptus oil says and how to use it with care.

    What the label says

We'll use the NOW 100% Pure Eucalyptus Oil, 1 oz as an example. This is what it has printed on the bottle:

    • Ingredient: "100% pure eucalyptus oil."
    • Aroma: "Strong aromatic, camphoraceous."
    • Attributes: "Revitalizing, invigorating, clarifying."
    • How it's made: "Steam Distilled from leaves and small branches."

    Uses of eucalyptus

    • Aromatherapy: the label says "For aromatherapy use." A few drops in a diffuser fill the room with its fresh aroma.
    • For the room: in the diffuser it also works as a natural home air freshener.
    • On the skin, always diluted: for any other use, the label asks you to dilute it first in a carrier oil, such as jojoba, grapeseed, olive or almond.

    A blend for your diffuser

The label itself has a recipe, "Clear Thoughts Blend":

    • 3 drops of eucalyptus oil
    • 2 drops of peppermint oil
    • 2 drops of tangerine oil

Add them to a diffuser and enjoy.

How to use it with care

This is what the label says, word for word:

    • "Natural essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care."
    • "For all other uses, carefully dilute with a carrier oil such as jojoba, grapeseed, olive, or almond oil prior to use. Please consult an essential oil book or other professional reference source for suggested dilution ratios."
    • "Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Do not apply on children's skin, especially the face, mouth, nose and eyes. Avoid contact with eyes. If pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare practitioner before using. Not for internal use."

"Not for internal use" means the essential oil is not to be swallowed.
