Its ingredients and what they do in the body

What MCTs are. They are fats made of medium-chain fatty acids, 6 to 12 carbon atoms long. Scientific reviews (Watanabe and Tsujino, “Applications of Medium-Chain Triglycerides in Foods,” Frontiers in Nutrition, 2022; and Heidt et al., “Medium-Chain Triglycerides: Scientific and Regulatory Perspectives,” Nutrients, 2026) explain that, because their chain is shorter than that of common long-chain fats, they are digested and absorbed differently: they are absorbed quickly, travel mainly through the portal vein to the liver and are burned there as a source of energy.

Where they come from. MCT oil was born in the 1950s in the United States from coconut oil processing: the leftover medium-chain fatty acids began to be joined back into triglycerides (Watanabe and Tsujino, 2022). This bottle states its oil is natural food sourced coconut oil.

The three acids in this bottle. Caprylic acid has 8 carbons, capric acid 10 and lauric acid 12. Watanabe and Tsujino note that MCTs originally ranged from 6 to 12 carbons and that today each manufacturer uses a different mix; that is why it matters that the label names which ones it has. This one names all three, without saying how much of each.

The 95%. The panel lists 4.75 g of MCT in a teaspoon with 5 g of total fat: 4.75 ÷ 5 = 95% (our own math), which is the “Standardized to 95%” on the front. All the fat in a serving is saturated (5 g, 25% Daily Value).

Energy and ketone bodies. According to those reviews, the body uses MCTs mainly as energy, and when they are taken in relatively large amounts part of them is converted into ketone bodies, another energy source the body makes normally.

These explanations describe normal body functions; they are not results measured with this product.
