What NOW bergamot essential oil is

It is 100% pure bergamot essential oil from NOW Essential Oils, from the plant Citrus bergamia, cold pressed from fresh fruit peel. The amber glass bottle holds 1 fl oz (30 ml) and the label lists it for aromatherapy use. It costs $29.50. Free shipping in Puerto Rico on orders from $35, or pick it up at our store in Galería Paseos.

The front of the label reads «100% pure bergamot» and «Citrus bergamia». It describes the scent as «Aroma: Sweet, fruity.» and its attributes as «Attributes: Lively, inspiring, uplifting.»

How to use it, per the label

The label states: «Suggested Use: For aromatherapy use. For all other uses, carefully dilute with a carrier oil such as jojoba, grapeseed, olive, or almond oil prior to use. Please consult an essential oil book or other professional reference source for suggested dilution ratios.»

And it warns in bold: «Natural essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care.»

The same label also says «Do not use on skin.» That is why we do not give any way to apply it to the skin here.

Per the label, it mixes well with cedarwood, tangerine and chamomile oil («Mixes Well With: cedarwood oil tangerine oil chamomile oil»). These are suggestions for combining scents: those oils are not inside this bottle.

Its ingredients and what they do in the body

Bergamot oil (100%). It is the only ingredient: «Ingredient: 100% pure bergamot oil.» The label gives its scientific name as Citrus bergamia. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) PLANTS database lists that plant as Citrus ×aurantium subspecies bergamia, bergamot orange, in the rue family (Rutaceae), the citrus family. The FDA's federal regulation (eCFR, 21 CFR 182.20), in its list of essential oils, names it the same way: «Bergamot (bergamot orange)», Citrus aurantium L. subsp. bergamia.

How it is obtained, per the label: «Extraction Method: Cold Pressed from fresh fruit peel.» In aromatherapy its scent is what is used; the label does not print any function for the body.

What sets it apart: per the label, it is 100% bergamot oil, cold pressed from fresh peel, and NOW says its oils «are analytically tested for identity, purity and adulteration». We do not compare it with other brands.

These explanations describe the plant; they are not results measured with this product.
