    What it is

    This is 100% pure clove essential oil (Eugenia caryophyllata) from NOW Essential Oils, in a 1 fl oz (30 mL) bottle. According to the manufacturer, its only ingredient is pure clove oil, obtained by steam distillation of clove buds, leaves, and stems.     What it is used for and how

    The manufacturer indicates it for aromatherapy use. For all other uses, the manufacturer says to carefully dilute it with a carrier oil such as jojoba, grapeseed, olive, or almond oil before use. For dilution ratios, it recommends consulting an essential oil book or another professional reference source.

    Manufacturer’s recipe (Blues Relief Blend): add 2 drops of clove oil, 2 drops of lemon oil, and 3 drops of orange oil to a diffuser.

    NOW describes its aroma as “Warm, pungent” and its attributes as “Warming, soothing, comforting.”

    A major component: eugenol

    According to PubChem, the chemistry database of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, eugenol is a major component of clove essential oil and has an odor of cloves. That fact describes clove oil in general; the manufacturer does not print the eugenol content of this bottle.
