Dandelion root (1,575 mg per 3-capsule serving; about 525 mg per capsule, our own math). It is the root of Taraxacum officinale, a plant native to Europe that now grows throughout the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (updated November 2024). The NCCIH explains that its flowers, leaves and root have traditionally been used in Mexican and other North American medicine; this bottle presents it as «Traditional Diuretic Herb*». The NIH LactMed database (PubMed 30000932) describes dandelion root as having a high concentration of inulin, a fiber made of chains of fructose. An analysis from the University of Hohenheim, Germany (Schütz and colleagues, 2006, PubMed 16977588), found that this root inulin is short-chain, with more fructooligosaccharides than artichoke inulin. The NCCIH notes that there is still very little research on dandelion's effects in people.
What sets it apart: the bottle says «Dandelion Root»: it is the root, not the leaf. According to LactMed (NIH), the plant contains vitamins, minerals, terpenoids and caffeic acid, and it is the root that concentrates the inulin.
These explanations describe normal body functions; they are not results measured with this product.
