Its ingredients and what they do in the body

Magnesium, 170 mg per capsule (40% of the Daily Value), as magnesium citrate. According to MedlinePlus, the medical encyclopedia of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, in its “Magnesium in diet” page (reviewed January 2025), magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body: it helps maintain normal nerve and muscle function, supports a healthy immune system, helps bones remain strong and aids in the production of energy and protein. The same source explains that most dietary magnesium comes from dark green, leafy vegetables, and that fruits such as bananas and avocados, nuts such as almonds, peas and beans (legumes), seeds and whole grains also provide it. In this bottle each capsule has 170 mg; at 3 capsules a day, the most the label gives, that is 510 mg (our math).

Citrate: the form the magnesium comes in. The magnesium in a supplement is always bound to another substance; here it is bound to citric acid, as the panel («as Magnesium Citrate») and the side of the bottle («Magnesium in the citrate form.») show.

    What sets it apart:

In a study by Lindberg and colleagues in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition (1990), magnesium citrate dissolved much better than magnesium oxide, even in water, and in healthy volunteers it raised urinary magnesium more after it was taken, a sign that more was absorbed. The study used a single 25 mmol magnesium load, not the 170 mg capsule in this bottle, and it does not measure any health outcome.

The other ingredients. The capsule is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a plant-based material, which is why the bottle says «90 vegetarian capsules». It also has magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide and microcrystalline cellulose.

These explanations describe normal body functions; they are not results measured with this product.
