What Nature's Way parsley capsules are

Nature's Way Parsley Leaf is parsley leaf (Petroselinum crispum) in vegan capsules: 900 mg of leaf per 2-capsule serving, 450 mg in each one (our math). The bottle holds 100 capsules, 50 servings. The label says 2 capsules three times daily with food: that is 6 a day, so the bottle lasts about 16 days (our math). It costs $15.00, about $0.15 per capsule and $0.90 a day at 6 capsules (our math). Free shipping in Puerto Rico on orders from $35, or pick it up at our store in Galería Paseos.

    The front says «Parsley Leaf», «Provides Chlorophyll» and «100 Vegan Capsules | 900 mg per Serving». It carries the Non-GMO Project Verified seal and the TRU-ID «Certified Authentic» seal.

Its ingredients and what they do in the body

Parsley leaf, 900 mg per 2-capsule serving. It is the leaf of parsley, the same green herb used in cooking, ground and put in a capsule; the panel says «Parsley (leaf)», not an extract. The one thing the bottle highlights is that it provides chlorophyll. According to the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, in its “Chlorophyll and Chlorophyllin” page (updated September 2021, reviewed March 2022), chlorophyll is the pigment that gives plants and algae their green color, and plants use it to trap the light they need for photosynthesis. Its structure is similar to the heme in hemoglobin, but the atom at its center is magnesium instead of iron, and it dissolves in fat, not in water. The same source lists parsley among the vegetables richest in chlorophyll: half a cup of raw parsley has about 19 mg. That figure is for fresh parsley, not for these capsules: the label does not say how much chlorophyll each serving has. The institute also notes that little is known about how much chlorophyll the human body absorbs.

    What sets it apart:

The chlorophyll in this bottle comes from the leaf itself («Parsley (leaf)»), the plant's natural chlorophyll, not from chlorophyllin. According to a review by Sarkar and colleagues in Mutation Research (1994, PubMed 7527487), chlorophyllins are derivatives of chlorophyll in which the central magnesium atom is replaced by another metal, such as cobalt, copper or iron. The Linus Pauling Institute adds that sodium copper chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic mixture that dissolves in water. There is no chlorophyllin here: there is parsley leaf.

The capsule. It is plant-derived (hypromellose); the formula has no other ingredients.

These explanations describe normal body functions; they are not results measured with this product.
