Progesterone Papaya Cream is the scented version of Dr. Norman's transdermal progesterone. Same USP progesterone and the same strength as the plain cream — the difference is the papaya fruit extract, which is there for the scent and the feel on the skin, not for the hormone.

What it is and what's in the tube

A transdermal cream carrying 1,000 mg of USP progesterone per ounce — 3,000 mg in the 3 oz tube. The progesterone comes from the manufacturer's own MNCT process, which converts the diosgenin in wild yam into progesterone before it goes into the formula. It is not a plain yam cream: the progesterone is already formed.

The rest of the label: sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, wild yam root extract, papaya fruit extract, red clover, Panax ginseng root, arnica, buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) oil, panthenol (provitamin B5), vitamin E, vitamin A, evening primrose oil, beta carotene, allantoin and potassium sorbate.

Papaya or plain — which one

The hormone content is identical. Pick the papaya version if you want a scented cream; pick the plain progesterone cream if you would rather have no added fragrance. Nothing else changes between them.

    Who it's for

    • Women in perimenopause with irregular cycles and breast tenderness.
    • Women in menopause or post-menopause dealing with hot flashes and night sweats.
    • Anyone noticing mood changes and broken sleep tied to this hormonal stage.
    • People who would rather go topical than take a daily pill.

    How to use it

The label says to apply a small amount, about 1 linear inch of cream, once or twice a day, for a maximum of 25 consecutive days, then take a 5-day break and resume. Rub it into clean, thin-skinned areas — inner arms, thighs, or abdomen — and rotate the spot each day. Keep it in a cool, dry place.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the papaya version weaker than the plain one?
No. Both carry 1,000 mg of USP progesterone per ounce. The papaya extract is a cosmetic ingredient.

How do you apply progesterone cream?
The label says about one linear inch, once or twice a day, for up to 25 consecutive days, followed by a 5-day break. Apply to clean, thin-skinned areas and rotate the area each day.

How long does a 3 oz tube last?
At one application a day of the amount above, a 3 oz tube usually covers two to three 25-day cycles.

    Can men use it?
It is sold as a unisex product. Check with your doctor or a licensed naturopath first if you have any health condition or take any medication.

    Precautions

Consult your doctor or a licensed naturopath before using it if you have any health condition, if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are on hormone therapy. It is not a replacement for treatment prescribed by your doctor. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

    More for menopause

If this one is out of stock, the plain Dr. Norman's progesterone cream is the same strength without the fragrance. Some customers pair either one with Female Harmony for daily support in capsule form. You can see everything we carry in Menopause Support.
