Its ingredients and what they do in the body

Curcuminoids, 500 mg per tablet, from 526 mg of turmeric rhizome extract. According to the NIH National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), in its fact sheet updated April 2025, turmeric is a plant in the ginger family grown in Southeast Asia and India; its rhizome (underground stem) is used. Curcumin, one of its major components, gives the spice its yellow color, and turmeric’s activities are commonly attributed to curcuminoids, which include curcumin. The label calls them the active components of turmeric. In this tablet, 500 of the 526 mg of extract are curcuminoids, about 95% (our math).

    What sets it apart:

It has the curcuminoids concentrated in an extract, not ground root, and adds black pepper. NCCIH explains that turmeric’s activities are commonly attributed to curcuminoids, and that combining curcumin with piperine, from black pepper, is one way to improve its bioavailability. The label prints both: 500 mg of curcuminoids from 526 mg of extract and 5 mg of BioPerine®.

Bromelain, 75 mg per tablet (2,000 G.D.U. per gram). According to NCCIH, in its November 2024 fact sheet, bromelain is a group of enzymes that break down proteins, found in the stem and fruit of the pineapple plant; pineapple was traditionally used in South and Central America.

Black pepper fruit extract (BioPerine®), 5 mg per tablet. Black pepper contains piperine. NCCIH explains that many curcumin products contain piperine from black pepper, and that combining them is one way to improve the bioavailability of curcumin. The label says turmeric is difficult to absorb, so BioPerine® is added.

The label describes it this way (text according to the manufacturer, on the label it publishes at sourcenaturals.com for this same code; the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database, DSLD 78263, says the same): «Research shows that turmeric root supports the body’s healthy inflammatory response. TURMERIC 500™ provides 500 mg per tablet of curcuminoids, the active components of turmeric. Turmeric supports the liver and its detoxifying properties, and has powerful antioxidant activity. Turmeric is difficult to absorb, so BioPerine® is added to enhance bioavailability.*» It also notes: «Not all inflammation is associated with disease states. Inflammation is also the body’s healthy immune response to life’s normal stressors such as strenuous exercise or an occasional high-fat/high-calorie meal. The body’s inflammation response to life’s occasional, normal stressors is important for optimal health.*»

These explanations describe normal body functions; they are not results measured with this product.
